Australia take 1-0 lead after close finish in CB series final
03-04-2012 01:39 PM · Post: #1 Australia take 1-0 lead after close finish in CB series final
A remarkable fightback by Sri Lanka almost pushed Australia to the brink in the first of the three finals of the CB series at Gabba but the hosts kept their nerve to take a 1-0 lead. David Warner’s 163-run knock powered Australia to an imposing 321 for 6 and when Sri Lanka slipped to 6 for 144, the match was as good as over. However, Nuwan Kalusekara and Upul Tharanga launched a calculated assault in the batting powerplay which yielded 68 runs to breathe a new life into the chase. They added 104 runs in 69 deliveries to bring Sri Lanka back into contention. However, Australia managed to limit Sri Lanka to 306 all-out, thereby winning the contest by 15 runs.
Match Summary:
Australia: 321 / 6 in 50.0 overs RR: 6.42
Sri Lanka: 306 / 10 in 49.2 overs RR: 6.20
Match Result: Australia won by 15 runs
Man of the Match: David Warner (163 runs).
